I am Aged at least 21 and am Entering an Undergraduate Course in Higher Education Approved for the BTEA
In order to be eligible for the BTEA, you must be in receipt of one of the following payments for at least 12 months (312 days):
- Jobseeker's Allowance or Benefit
- Farm Assist
- One-Parent Family Payment
- Widow’s or Widower’s Contributory or Non-Contributory Pension
- Carer’s Allowance (having ceased caring responsibilities on a permanent or temporary basis
It is possible to quality for the BTEA where you have been in receipt of one of the above payments for at least 9 months (234 days) but only in the following circumstances:
- You are a participant in the National Employment Action Plan (NEAP) process
- The higher education course you intend to enrol in is recommended by a FÁS Employment Services Officer as part of your NEAP process
or- A recommendation that you should qualify at 9 months is provided by one of the Facilitators of the Department of Social and Family Affairs (from 1st May 2009). More information is available from your local social welfare office.
